Brain Cells 942 and 943 from Ryosuke Cohen – Japan

2016-04-19 07.14.22

Again two more brain cells from Ryosuke Cohen in Japan arrived in Breda, Netherlands. Number 942 (above) and 943 (below). The project continues since 1985 and 31 years later the 1000 th issue is coming in sight. With an issue each 10 days this still takes a long time…..  But we enjoy every new issue that brightens the world with all these icons from a mail-art network.

New Acrylic Painted Envelopes 2016

2016-03-16 13.36.50

The last decades I have been sending out lots of acrylic painted envelopes. The proces of making them goes in various stages. Each color is added as a batch to several envelopes where I constantly decide what there will be added to the envelope.

Once ready each envelope gets a date stamp with my initials JR and the year of production. So the new envelopes all get a 2016 behind my initials. Once ready they are selected for specific senders and specific projects.

The theme on the envelopes has always connection to the networking proces. Mostly you will discover a sender and a receiver, or at least a transport system symbolized on the envelope

A in a Cube

2016-03-14 13.32.52

In 2 weeks I will be doing two workshops on the use of the 3D pen for two groups of teachers at a college. They will be guided into the possibilities of using the new tool in their education, but it could also be fun. I made the letter A with black PLA plastic, and the golden cage was made lateron as a cube surrounding the letter A.

I used a MyRywell Expert pen which can use both PLA and ABS plastics. In the course I will use this pen as well for the teachers to use and test.

Fluxus Words / New words

2016-03-12 09.18.26 2016-03-12 09.18.41 2016-03-12 09.18.54 2016-03-12 09.19.12

Four new Fluxus words were painted on envelopes. They are now sent out to some active mail/artists, so they will find the word quite soon. If they don´t know what to do with it, they could visit:

http://fluxuswords.blogspot.nl/

Because that is a blog I made to give people an overview of the Fluxus Words Score, and the results that it has brought so far.

New pens

2016-03-06 09.29.40

Just bought a set of new pens, Rotring 2000 isograph, with several types of nibs. It means I can work faster with indian ink and have more control on the broadness of the lines I use in my work.  I normaly use the traditional nibs, since that works the best, but for design, these pens are very good indeed.  Teset days I worked on cleaning them and testing them. One of the papers used for that (see below) I lateron used as writing paper for a letter to De Villo Sloan in USA…….

On my new drawings you will see the results since they are used now in the new drawings I make on a weekly basis.

The OLD IUOMA website

For people doing research, please notice that the old IUOMA website is still available. I started the website in 1996 when the HTTP protocols first were used to make the WWW websites.  It grew from there and was completely typed by hand.

Because maintaining that old structure because too time consuming and also I didn’t wantbto throw away the old building, it is still there through:

http://www.iuoma.org/index.html

Just try it…..  The new www.iuoma.org website is build around that old website because I use a trick. The old website was done with direct addressing, and the new website is done with relative addressing based on a new link to the root. This works out just fine leaving two websites alive where I can go from the old one to the new one without any problem.

Also historically it is interesting. The old website gives the feeling of how that old programming went. The new one is a blog with all the advantages given by WordPress in maintaining such a website.

For more historic information you should visit:

http://www.archive.org

Ans look for the old URL address of the starting periode:

http://www.geocities.com/Paris/4947

It brings you back in those old years of building websites and you can actually look back on the structure there were back in the 90-ies.

Check any of the old versions of the website, and see and read all that was published decades ago. Funny how the Wayback machine has captured all these old Geocities websites as a timemark for the new world to research

And remember, before the WWW-years I used the BBS-structures that made information available through the digital channels as well. Charles Francois (Belgium) documented the structure quite well:
